The third audio promotional teaser for The Cycle of the Six Moons: The Last Winter Moon! With John Archer as Gediyon, and walla by Laila Berzins, Jasmine Carbonell, Derek Crawley, Kellen Goff, Paul Im, Cody Johnson, Kyle Land, Kalyn McCabe, Patrick M. Seymour, Dane Spurrell, Shanice Turner, and Steve Nunez!
This is pretty much a test to see who’s actually watching these things, and my guess is, not very many 😛 So I’ll tell you right off the bat, right here, right now, this doesn’t actually happen in the book.
The tone is way off and wacky from the seriousness of the rest of the teasers, and I wrote this scene specifically to have some fun. I even make fun of my own writing. Notice how in the actual books, Michelle often seems way more concerned about Gediyon than she is about her own freakin’ boyfriend, Jayse? Yeah. And Gediyon Fan Club? Yup.
I went over the idea with John, who voices Gediyon. I wanted five promotional shorts for the third book, like I had for the previous two books, but I couldn’t really pick out a scene that I wanted to do that didn’t give away too much. So I decided to make something up.
I totally satirized my own writing, and maybe you’ll even notice some influences from The Princess Bride 😉 Which is, like, one of my favorite books ever.
Anyway, after John and I recorded his lines for the previous, serious scene, Beasts of the Mountain, we jumped into this for goofy times. I didn’t actually know HOW I wanted him to portray Gediyon in this scene. Straight man? Drunk? Deadpan? We went all over the place, and when I finally got around to editing, it went from straight to silly and “I AM A SUPER HERO AND I WILL MAKE EVERYONE SOUP!!!” Anyway. I like it. If y’all don’t, please blame it on me :’D IT’S ALL MY FAULT.
As for the walla, I did a short call for extra voices on Facebook, and used pretty much every decent sounding recording that I received within a few days. I’m kind of surprised how much it sounds like an actual crowd when you combine a bunch of individual voices together 😀 I mean, duh. But there’s a certain sort of resonance with a real crowd that you don’t get from individual voices.
