An Eclipsing Autumn Teaser – The Wolf’s Den

The second audio promotional teaser for The Cycle of the Six Moons:  An Eclipsing Autumn!  With River Kanoff as Wolf, and Steven Kelly as Jayse.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uv4UV7ScZRE

I chose this scene because it’s pretty much the first time it shows Wolf as part of the party 😉  Wolf’s a great guy.  While Gediyon is more of a role-model older brother figure, Wolf is more of a bad influence kind of older brother.  Also, I really wanted to get River to say, “Wink, wink.”  For…my own amusement 😛

When I was choosing scenes, I had actually used a longer segment from this part, where Michelle and Jayse settle down and talk for a bit before falling asleep, but they discuss some things that wouldn’t really be understood by anyone who hadn’t read the chapters before, so I decided to take that out.

Jayse is wearing some hideous clothes here because of what had happened prior 😀  I asked Steven to put on an American accent again, since he’s in Wolf’s presence, doesn’t know the guy, and doesn’t want to make him feel inferior by speaking like an Arriscylean (and by that, I mean with an English accent).  I explained a little more about the accents in this post.

The Starriest Summer Teaser – The Cyborg and Her Wolf

The fourth audio promo of The Starriest Summer, with Elissa Park as Dreana and River Kanoff as Wolf!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ba6LMs0E_Q

For this set of auditions, Dreana and Wolf were the two newbies that needed voices.  Both of them were pretty difficult to cast.

Dreana was the only character for whom I had to hold callbacks, because the voices I heard were so good and it was difficult to determine who brought the best to the character!  Each actress gave different nuances, and I had to ask for help to narrow down the one voice.  Huzzah!  In the end, I cast Elissa (also known as Adoxographist).  A lot of the other voices I was considering sounded a bit too young, and though Dreana can be girlish and immature, I needed a more mature, cool, bossy voice to offset Michelle.  I think she did a great job and I can’t wait to do more with her :3

Wolf–despite having the least lines of all the characters open for auditions–got the most auditions.  Again, it was difficult narrowing him down, but with some help from my buddies, I avoided holding callbacks.  (Also, maybe I really wanted an excuse to work with River.)  Though Wolf can be super childish, I liked the texture in River’s voice.  I wanted Wolf to have an Australian accent because he grew up in Tyrique, and I imagined them having a harsher accent because of how secluded they are from the rest of civilization.

I chose this scene because 1) I wanted to bring life to Dre and Wolf :P, and 2) I needed a scene that showed that it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows to Michelle.  The people Michelle meets when she first comes to Starrs are super friendly and, for the most part, welcoming.  I wanted to show the view of the other side of the world, away from the privileged Arriscyleans and all their desserts, tea, and frilly dresses.

Check out some of their stuff in the video description, and don’t forget to pick up your signed copy of The Starriest Summer! 😀

Audio Promo Shorts All Done!

A month and a week later, and I’m done with all of the promotional shorts!  I can’t wait for people to hear them.  I love how they turned out 😀

The audition process was fun, but it was the casting process that became a bit of a challenge.  One character was the easiest to cast–I knew right when I heard the audition that that was the voice I wanted.  For another character, it came down to two voices, and so I sought help from my fellow voice acting friends to help me narrow it down between the two.  The last character was the hardest, and I ended up holding callbacks for the character.

Surprisingly, I managed to schedule everyone’s directing sessions quickly–I guess that’s what I get when I’m working with professionals 😀  I had a blast directing everyone.

I had fun putting everyone’s voices together.  It’s always most challenging to find music that fits the scene.  I hope all the pieces I’ve found do their job at enhancing the scene without being too distracting.

All of the shorts will go on YouTube eventually, so I’ve made artwork to go along with them.  I’ve already done the first two before, but I wanted to redraw them to fit the style of the rest.  Here’s a sneak preview of them 🙂AllPromo
